A forward looking memorial raises awareness for our current environmental crisis.

Academy Studios recently completed a project with renowned artist Maya Lin regarding the current crisis surrounding biodiversity. Measuring 19 feet long by 8.5 feet high, the piece entitled "What is missing?"was unveiled in September 2009 on the East Terrace of the new California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Along with having to create conditions for showing media outdoors, Academy Studios' challenge was to create a reclaimed redwood interior cone that mates with a rolled bronze exterior. Using salvaged redwood from a water tank in Clear Lake, California, our woodworking team undertook the complex challenge of cutting, milling and fitting together the pieces into an elegant, compelling shape. At 5:00 one misty San Francisco morning, the Golden Gate Bridge was briefly closed in both directions so the completed cone could journey down to it's permanent home.
