Get close to over 30,000 insects.

Academy Studios and Design + Communications designed the Audubon Nature Institute's new "Insectarium," located in the historic Customs House Building in the French Quarter District of New Orleans. The 24,000 square foot Insectarium is the largest exhibition in the United States dedicated solely to insects. This unique project is both educational and an attraction for children and families. The Insectarium hosts over 30,000 insects, 150 species of live insects plus various immersive environments and inter-actives experiences that allow people to connect with the life of a bug. Additionally Academy Studios built the Butterflies in Flight exhibit fashioned after a Japanese Tea Garden, hosting an oasis of live butterflies, a Koi fish pond, fabricated Japanese tea house and entry gate and plant life. This exhibit serves as a restful and contemplative opportunity for guests to enjoy before departing the Insectarium.
